For many Africans interested in a career in data science, the alliance between DataCamp Donates and AI Community Africa represents more than a collaboration. It symbolizes hope for a better career path.
By offering free year-long access to DataCamp’s course library, we focused on making quality data education accessible and reducing the educational disparities many on the continent face.
Onboarding process
The 2024 DataCamp Donates X AI Community Africa program received over 2500 application requests and kicked off her first and second cohort on the 8th of June and 27th of July respectively with the total onboarding session of 596 learners which are spread across different African countries including Nigeria.
The learners were granted access to the community Slack Workspace. A platform dedicated to allowing them to catch up on program updates and scheduled meetings and connect and collaborate with fellow learners.
Additionally, the learners were grouped into 5 different learning tracks namely; the Data Science Career Track, the Data Engineering Career Track, the Data Analysis Career Track, the Machine Learning Engineering Career Track, and the Developed Career Track. This grouping was carried out using the feedback received from the learners indicating their desired career tracks.

Achievements and Outcomes
Over the past two months, the program has observed significant progress and achievements by our learners. Notably, many have attempted and successfully earned their DataCamp certification exams and professional certificates.
As a community, we took the responsibility to track and document this progress using our monthly feedback form.
One such success story comes from Julius, a learner who shared his excitement about hosting his first e-commerce website following the Python course he completed at the start of the program. In his words,
“Yeees!! …. I just hosted my first e-commerce website (comradestore.co.ke)… Thanks to the intermediate Python course.”
This testimonial, along with many others, can be found in the documented sheet linked here if you want to collaborate with any of them.
Conclusion
The DataCamp platform has proven to be a valuable resource for the AI Community. As we continue to monitor and support the progress of our learners, the early achievements and enthusiastic feedback underscore the program’s impact and potential.
We look forward to documenting further successes and stories of transformation as the 2024 DataCamp Donate X AI Community Africa program progresses.
